Inland Revenue – Business process re-engineering

In partnership with Deloitte Namibia, redesigning the key 70 Inland Revenue business processes for the Ministry of Finance, Namibia.

Financial Services – Strategy, Business Process Re-engineering & Cost Reduction

Metropolitan Retail: Working with the CEO and his Exco over a period of two and a half years, this project involved the strategic alignment of processes and structure to the business strategy via its Value Chain.

SA Credit Industry – Preparation for the Implementation of the National Credit Act

Assisted the National Credit Regulator and subsequently the National Credit Industry Steering Committee, to prepare for the implementation of the National Credit Act.

SADC Region – Development of SOE Governance Framework

Office of the Prime Minister, Namibia: Between 1999 and 2004 conducted international benchmark studies to determine an appropriate governance framework for State-Owned Enterprises in Namibia. Produced research and reports which culminated in the SOE Governance Act, No. 2 of 2006 and in 2012 we assisted with improved structure for the performance monitoring of SOEs.

Large Australian Utility Company – Maintenance Strategy & SAP Implementation

West Australian Water Corporation, Perth: Developed a corporate infrastructure maintenance strategy, aligned with SAP implementation (PM module), followed by business process re-engineering of infrastructure support, and development of a project benefits realisation plan.

National Transport Logistics Service Provider – Business Transformation

TransNamib: Comprehensive review of all business components of this national transport logistics service provider, formulation of a corporate recovery strategy, design of a new corporate structure and development of a turnaround implementation plan.

Life Assurance Company - Strategy and Operations Improvement

Sanlam: Facilitated the strategic planning sessions of the Operations division. Followed by a review of operations, identifying significant improvements in client centricity, business processes and cost efficiency.

Regional Government - Road Maintenance Commercialisation

Namibian Department of Transport: Reviewed operational costs and efficiencies within the Road Maintenance and Construction division, evaluated alternative organizational models, and obtained parliamentary approval for commercialization. Developed and assisted with the implementation of a blueprint for commercialisation, leading to the formation of the corporatised Roads Contractor Company.

Short Term Insurer – ICT Strategy Implementation

Santam: Developed a vision for information systems in the organisation. Then carried out a systems requirements definition, selection (RFI and RFP) and project managed the implementation of the JD Edwards software package, including financials and significant interfacing to existing front-end systems.

National Parastatal – Performance Improvement and PPP

Air Traffic and Navigation Services Company: Acted as Transaction Advisors and project managers for a comprehensive operations review and possible PPP establishment within the Technical Support Department, following the Treasury’s PPP model.

Higher Education – Business Process Re-engineering

Cape Peninsula University of Technology: Reviewed business processes at the former Cape Technikon and applied best practice to align the processes with the functionality of the existing information systems and to define appropriate improved business processes to meet the requirements of the institution. When they merged with the Peninsula Technikon to form the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, project managed the harmonization and integration of processes and systems, including Finance, HR, Student Administration and ICT.

Major Metropole - Strategic ICT Assessment

City of Cape Town: Undertook an assignment to strategically position the use of information technology at the City of Cape Town ("Smart City"). This included an assessment of existing technologies and software, followed by an assessment of the organisation's strategies and goals for the future.

FMCG – Business Operating Model Design

British American Tobacoo (SA): Undertook a comprehensive benchmarking assessment of global network organisations to determine the key success factors of flexible organisations. The assignment stretched over four years and involved the development of a network stakeholder governance framework, the development and roll-out of a flexible working programme for office employees, the development and piloting of a training programme in virtual working, and the assessment of organisational functions in terms of their readiness to support the network organisational model.

Human Resources Management & Industrial Relations

FutureLead has helped higher education clients to chart a new course focused on strategic human resources development, empowering academic as well as support service managers to practice sound HR management and helping the institution to become better at how it relates to its key resource, people. FutureLead resources have also been seconded to two universities where they successfully assumed hands-on “HR Director” roles for extended periods.

Life Assurance Company – Business Process Re-engineering

Old Mutual: Performed detailed analysis of the back-office financial processes for the Individual Life division, the largest business unit within South Africa’s leading life assurance society. Identified performance improvement potential, followed by business process re-engineering of the major processes.

Higher Education - Transforming Facilities Management

Through identifying opportunities for cost saving and improving service levels at the Universities of Witwatersrand, Pretoria, and Limpopo, FutureLead has helped the universities not only save millions of Rands in annual service costs, but also by managing the total procurement process drastically improved service levels.

Central Government Secondment – Department Transformation / Stabilisation

Department of Correctional Services: One of our directors was deployed on contract by the State President to stabilise the Department of Correctional Services – as both Chief Executive and Accounting Officer of the Department, with responsibilities including:

• Managing a budget of R6 billion per annum.
• Managing 35,000 staff nationally. • Ensuring the management of all prisons in the Republic of South Africa.

Provincial Government - Strategic Infrastructure Planning

FutureLead was part of a team developing the Strategic Infrastructure Plan (SIP) for the Western Cape. This entailed economic research and a review of the transport sector infrastructure status (rail, road, ports and airports), identifying critical backlogs and infrastructural requirements. The study included development of an economic infrastructure evaluation model based on a triple bottom-line approach to assist in the prioritization of infrastructure projects. The model is currently being applied to all the major infrastructure projects identified in the province.

Training

Designed and currently implementing a training project for capacity training in sustainable local economic development monitoring for district municipalities throughout South Africa. The project was developed in collaboration with the Development Bank of Southern Africa and the German capacity training organisation, InWent.

Transport Planning

Assisted the Department of Transport and Public Works of the Western Cape with a study related to the economic benefaction and transport planning components of the FIFA World Cup 2010 planning.

Completed the Transport Sector component of the Micro-Economic Development Strategy (MEDS) research for the Department of Economic Development of the Western Cape. The research incorporated reviewing all the municipal Integrated Development Plans (IDPs) in the province with regard to identifying infrastructure backlogs and development requirements. In addition, work was undertaken to explore the division of transport between the spheres of government (National, Provincial and Municipal functions) in terms of infrastructure development and ongoing maintenance to explore institutional mechanisms to ensure the effective integration thereof.

Sector Studies – Economic Feasibility

Conducted a feasibility study for the Department of Economic Affairs to assess the potential of establishing a boat building hub within the Western Cape. The results of the study lead to undertaking an assignment for the Cape Town Boat Building and Technology Initiative (CTBI) encompassing developing an industry service directory, conducting in-depth surveys of the industry and exploring the boating legislative frameworks.
